The Bengal cat is a new breed of cat created by the genetician JEAN MILL in the U.S.A in 1963 by crossing felis bengalensis with a domestic cat.

The purpose of the domestic breed was to preserve a strong physical resemblance to its wild ancestor, while creating a pleasant companion for the family. He is very intelligent, interested in everything. Close to the owner always looking for company.

They characteristics are sincerity and affection with their coat of leopard spots or marble on a light brown background color, or sometimes white.

He must be long and powerful, his back legs higher than the front, with a short thick tail. The Bengal loves to play with water!

The spots on a Spotted Bengal cat must be random or horizontal, they should not form or join lines in vertical stripes. The spots should always stand out in as much contrast as possible to the color of coat.

He has thick soft fur as shiny as silk. Another unique characteristic of Bengals is that some specimens have a "glitter" effect on their fur, as if it was sprinkled with gold dust. This remarkable feature is considered highly desirable.

It is also desirable that the cat's belly be light colored or white as the "white tummy" of the Asian Leopard Cat.
